QR Code Scanning Up 1,200 Percent in 2010

In the second half of 2010, quick response code scanning increased by 1,200 percent across all of North America, a report by Mobio Identity Systems revealed. According to Mobio, Generation X and females make up a large percentage of those users scanning QR codes. Additionally, the number of users making mobile payments via QR codes has dramatically increased.

These findings indicate that brands and retailers ought to begin integrating QR codes into marketing initiatives and packaging, according to an interview in Mobile Commerce Daily with Mark Binns, chief marketing officer of Mobio.

"By adding a QR code to a marketing campaign the brands are creating interactive media," Binns said to the source. "They can deliver video, web properties, digital coupons or even sell their products directly through a formerly static media."

"For packaging, the opportunities are vast. One use case is to deliver recipes through the QR code, for example, scan the QR code on a bag of pasta and receive instant recipes using that product on your phone," he added.
