According to the recent Global Aseptic Packaging report from Zenith, a food and drinks consultancy, packaged products are increasing across the globe.
The recent packaging news showed that aseptically packaged products accounted for 123 billion liters in 269 billion packs during 2011. Milk accounted for 39 percent of aseptically packaged goods.
"The market for aseptic packaging developed in Europe and the industry supplying it has been centered on Europe," said David Warrick, director of Warrick Research. "This report shows the market shift to Asia in the past four years and raises the prospect of this continuing in the next few years."
Esther Renfrew, market intelligence director at Zenith International, added that the aseptic packaging market has grown more than 5 percent annually in the last four years and the current technology is poised to supply the demands of new markets and applications.
In other packaging news, a separate report by PCI Films Consulting showed that 13 markets - Poland, Russia, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nigeria, and South Africa - account for 20 percent of the total world demand for flexible packaging, Packaging Digest reported.
Variables contributing to these emerging markets include, GDP growth, high population growth, liberalization in numerous markets, urbanization and the development of mass retailing, the source reported.
