Consumers Want Disclosure of Political Money on Labels

Consumers are demanding transparency from the companies that produce their favorite goods.

Most recently, an online petition was started to encourage companies to note on product labels whether any of their corporate funds are used to support or oppose a political party or agenda. Supporters explained that they don't want their money to fund politics that oppose their beliefs, and believe that labels would be an effective way of disclosing that information.

"I think this is a wonderful idea and I believe there should be no issue with the quick passage of the legislation once it is escalated to that level," said one signer.

"More transparency," cried another.

The petition has already gained some ground on social networking sites such as Reddit, where it has was{?} approved 1,579 times and has more than 200 comments in less than 24 hours.

Greater transparency allows consumers to make better purchase decisions. Disclosure about the ways products are made or which political parties are supported can influence these purchases.
