Bulgarian Manufacturers Urged to Show Pride on Labels

A number of Bulgarian manufacturers have chosen not to explicitly say where their products are made on labels — which is a mistake, according to one country official.

Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Neydnov told Focus News that the country is capable of producing a number of high-quality consumables and goods. He is urging manufacturers in the country to show some national pride by clearly stating on labels that the goods are made in the country.

"We offer wonderful things … but rarely does a product have a 'Made in Bulgaria' sign on its label," Neydnov told the news source.

Ambassador Marin Raykov also suggested that countries such as France should help protect Bulgarian products in the EU marketplace, and a strategy to achieve this goal was discussed at a recent meeting with his French counterpart.

A number of countries — including France — are using "Made in" labels to woo foreign buyers. This is particularly the case for luxury French goods, such as wine.
